4K vs 2K vs 1080p – What is the difference on YouTube?

Comparing 4K vs 2K vs 1080p on YouTube. Yes, there is a quality difference!

  • 4K has FOUR TIMES as many pixels as 1080p and 2.25 times as 2K
  • 4K is 2160p (3840×2160) exactly double 1080p (1920×1080)

  • 2K has almost twice as many pixels as 1080p (1.77 times more)
  • 2K is 1440p (2560×1440) exactly double 720p (1280×720)

1080p used to be considered the best quality. It is now four times below the best. 4K is the new 1080p and we (content creators) should all have a plan to get there to stay ahead of the competition.

Do you 4K?

If not, it is likely because you cannot afford the cost of the hardware necessary for 4K, a 4K monitor and a high-end graphics card like the Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti.

But YouTube is already 4K-enabled. It has a special 4K filter that shows only videos recorded in 4K. Your videos will get more views as people start buying 4K monitors and using this filter, as George shows at the beginning of this video.
